The Kingfield Transfer Station located
on Route 16 between New Portland and Kingfield
is a jointly owned facility serving New
Portland, Kingfield and some surrounding
towns. Hours are 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Residents using the Kingfield Transfer
Station with their own vehicles must have
a Kingfield Transfer Station sticker attached
to the lower left side of their windshields.
These stickers may be obtained at the
Transfer Station. While at the Town Office it is important to
pick up detailed instructions for separating
recyclables and for packaging trash so
that it is acceptable at the Transfer Station.
Items such as tires and some appliances
are subject to a disposal fee. An abbreviated
list of regulations follows:
All non-recyclable garbage and trash must arrive in clear colorless plastic bags.
Non-recyclable materials are acceptable provided the transfer station attendant has directed where they should be deposited.
- Demolition debris
- Ashes
- Brush, scrap lumber and other untreated wood.
All solid waste shall have the following recyclable materials separated.
- Corrugated cardboard and brown paper bags
- Newspapers, telephone books, magazines and catalogs
- High-grade paper
- Mixed household paper
- HDPE #2 plastic
- Tin cans
- Aluminum
- Used oil
- Fluorescent light bulbs and mercury thermostats
- Glass
- Composting
INDEPENDENT TRASH HAULERS
There are a number of independent haulers who pick up trash in New Portland for a fee. Some may require recyclables to be separated.
